We've been working on our development at the lake since 1993, but it takes time at our slow pace. We've done lumberjacking, road & retaining-wall construction, footings & landscaping and have finally constructed a garage (w/apartment), gazebo, shed, dock and a log cabin.
The details are in the photos posted here, which will be updated periodically as we progress:
Here's some recent photos taken inside:
The credits required to acknowledge our helpers is huge! As the ol' saying goes, we get by with a little help from our friends. Some of them are: Mike Senty (principally), log crafter and master designer (www.senty.com); Ron Purdy, excavator; Jon & Bonnie Hagen, exterior carpenters; John Dahlgren, internal carpenter; Ernie Krech, cabinet-maker; Terry Westphal, Roofer; Dave Brekken, plumber; Ted Romportl, stone mason; George Gru (Stained Glass Pro); Dave Putnam, landscaper; Jeff Hagen, millwright; and John & Elizabeth Pickerill, interior designers.
Meanwhile, Dave has served as architect, chief engineer and general contractor as well as 'prime grunt'; Patty has been principal decorator, master stainer and scaffold climber.
Visualizing a cabin in the woods by a lake, exposed to nature and all of her harsh elements, I'm sure that you're immediately driven to the age-old question about bears in nature that everyone asks, often rhetorically. Our cabin is very close to Brekken's 'Bear Crossing' so we were naturally also driven to ask that same question, and for many years were fairly certain of the answer, but unable to prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt. But Now, This photo will settle that issue once and for all with a resounding "YES, I KNEW IT!!" answer.
Thanks for letting us clear that up for you. Now, back to the log cabin project.
